LED (light emitting diodes)
Small light sources that fit onto an electrical circuit and don't have a filament that will burn out like ordinary incandescents.
History: LEDs have been around since the 1960s but gained popularity in recent years when a variety of white colored LEDs became available.
Energy-efficiency: LEDs not only last up to 25 to 50 times longer than standard incandescents, they also use 80 percent less energy. LEDs can last 30,000 to 50,000 hours. LEDs emit virtually NO energy as heat, compared to incandescents, which release 90% of their energy as heat!!
